Deep Peels (Phenol Peel)

When Do We Recommend Deep Peels?

Deep peels are recommended as a skin resurfacing and rejuvenating treatment for reducing the appearance of deeper lines, sun damage and hyper-pigmentation. Phenol peels work very well for fair skinned individuals. Its effect lasts longer than other peels and results are more dramatic. The effects of a Phenol peel and a deep laser peel are similar.

Skin that shows signs of more advanced aging or skin that has been exposed to the sun over a number of years, may not respond well to less aggressive treatment options. Such skin aging is evidenced by a coarser texture, more lines, enlarged pores and areas of discolouration or hyperpigmentation.

By removing deeper layers of the skin’s surface, it is forced to regrow new, thicker layers of collagen to heal the damage, and gives profoundly amazing results.

It can be performed only on the face.

How Does It Work?

Deep peels, or phenol peels, are the most aggressive chemical peels available, and uses carbolic acid to exfoliate several layers of facial skin. Lighter, or medium peels t remove the outer layer of skin where lines, wrinkles and other skin damage are visible, but a phenol peel works much deeper than other peels.

When Do We Advise Against It?

People with heart problems aren’t candidates for this treatment. It also can not be done on darker skin tones, as the Phenol acts as a mild bleaching agent, which could cause areas of hypopigmentation.

What Is The Typical Course Of Treatment?

Your aesthetic specialist applies the phenol solution to the treatment area. The solution acts as a mild anaesthetic too. The treatment takes approximately 1 hour, but treatment of smaller areas will take less. At the end of the treatment, the phenol solution is neutralized with cold water, and a thick layer of petroleum jelly is applied to protect the skin surface. That will stay in place for a few days.

What Can You / Can’t You Expect From The Treatment?

It will take about ten days to two weeks for the skin to regrow after the procedure. Your skin will remain red and sensitive for several weeks, and you will likely need at least 14 days off work. Complete healing; to the point where you will have radiant, rejuvenated skin may take up to 2-3 months.

What Are The Unwanted Effects / Risks Of The Treatment?

Peeling, redness and swelling occur during the initial recuperation period, but these are managed with pain medication. Excessive sun exposure should be avoided during this time. Overall skin tone may become lighter.

Our Aesthetic Specialist will assist clients in the choice of a skin resurfacing and rejuvenating program that is suitable for them, according to the condition of their skin and results that they desire to achieve with the program.
